Angela Morelli is an Italian information designer based in Norway. She gained her MA in Communication Design from Central St Martins, where she specialised in Information Design. She previously gained a degree in Engineering from Politecnico di Milano and an MA in Industrial Design. She has collaborated with a number of research organizations in Europe. She is an advocate of environmental issues through the use of visual narrative and collaborates with the scientists at the Knowledge Centre in Oslo with the aim of communicating medical information to doctors, patients and policy makers. She is currently involved in two projects, SIHCLIC which is about supporting informed health choices in low income countries and DECIDE. She is Associate Lecturer at Central St Martins in London and runs Information Design workshops internationally for designers and non-designers.

Angela has served as an ambassador for virtual water and water footprint research, and was named a 2012 Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

Data visualization is becoming increasingly popular in order to communicate complex information.

The big challenge, however, is not making data visual, but making it understandable. Angela will share her thoughts on using data visualization to facilitate the process of turning data into knowledge. She will tell about the struggle and joy, the conflicts and mediations, the wonder and uncertainty in visualizing data to support understanding and action.

 

She will share her professional journey through the fascination for science explained by visual narratives.
